Lang Vitters: Ich glaube, uns beiden ist es wichtig, einen emotionalen und ästhetischen Zugang zu Kunst zu haben

Lang Vitters: Ratskeller

Interview: Lara Lehmann. Published on 17. SEP 2024.

I am very happy to talk to you both today about your collaboration and art.

— Do you already know Gelsenkirchen and why did you say yes to the GOLDSTÜCKEN 2024?

Lucca: I’ve always wanted to eat a currywurst in the Ruhrpott. (I’ve never been there before.) If I can see some beautiful light art while I’m there, I’d love to come.

Simon: lol. To be honest, I don’t have any connections to the Ruhr area and barely know the whole area. One more reason to take part here. Something new…

— Have you already worked togehter and are there already several joint works? How did the collaboration come about?

Lucca: I urgently needed a motivating theme form y next project. And then Simon showed me a laser in his foggy kitchen.

Simon: Weh ad already worked together in different contexts before that: In collectives, on a political level as well as concretely in smaller projects. RAYARRAY, however, is our first major joint work. It all started in my shared flat at the kitchen table. In my memory, there was a small sketch before the laser. But who knows?

— Which aspects were important to you when creating a joint work of art?

Simon: I think it’s important for both of us to have an emotional and aesthetic approach to art. If I’m standing in front of it, haven’t read anything yet and whatecer I’m standing in front of doesn’t trigger anything in me, then the conceptual work in the background will also bore me. I would say that we wanted to create something that ia visually impressive, that opens up a space where you stick to it, start meditating, or stop thinking logically and start feeling.

Lucca: Practically speaking, our skills simply complemented each other well.

— Do you observe certain trends and developments in art and do you incorporate them into your work?

Lucca: I try, although I often have the feeling that I should do something, to remember not to do it.

Simon: Frighteningly universal… Form my part, I also observe varios trends and developments more or less voluntarily, but in the end I find most oft hem somewhat stupid ans stick to my own thoughts. Being a follower seems extremely dangerous to me. Also a bit like RAYARRAY’s statement I guess.

— Do you have a favorite work of art from this year’s GOLDSTÜCKE program?

Lucca: I Like to look at things without knowing anything beforehand. Please don’t spoil anything!

Simon: As I haven’t seen most oft he works “in real life“ yet, I can’t take a position on them.
